Callie's Purple Kitty Cake
I made the purple kitty cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday in November. Purple by the way is her favourite colour.
I'm very proud of it as I've never really tried shaped cakes. I've tried making decorated cookies so applied some of the decorating techniques to this.
Callie wanted kitties for her birthday theme (we have 2 real ones that are quite cute) and a friend had made trucks and other fancy type cakes so I tried to be creative for her. I used one of her stuffed animals as inspiration as the real kitties wouldn't sit still!
I used one cake mix (any flavour.) I used white and baked it in 2 round pans as directed on the package. I bought a cake board at a local bulk food store and put one round on it for the body and cut the second round so it looked like a head and made a tail out of the rest.
The ears are frosted chocolate chunks and I used purple licorice whips and other candy to decorate along with coloured icing. The base icing is vanilla cream.
My daughter loved it! And so did the guests and the rest of our family.
