Fairy Cake
by Tracy Venter
-- Kids Party Cakes -- I made this cake for my 3 year old. It was my first attempt at making a "3D" cake and took my 9 hours till it was complete. I hired a flower tin and a cone tin to go on top. I then used plastic icing for the base (flower tin) and royal icing for the dress. I also used the plastic icing for the mushrooms - I rolled the icing into cylinders and compress them to give different shapes and made the lean to sides. Then I pressed out a different colour icing to make the top and bent them in on the palm of my hand and fitted them to the top with a little bit of melted apricot jam. Then I cut a small hole in the cake for the doll to fit in. I started with her skirt first - rolled the royal icing out and wrapped it around her dress and cut away the front section of her dress. Then I rolled out white icing and put that in the front. On the doll I carved out a top from the icing and pressed it down smoothly with my fingers, then put her into position. I covered up the lines with a softer royal icing and stuck the wings on with a bit of icing held up with the help of her hair too. I positioned the mushroom on the board and covered it with green coconut powder and smaller icing flowers bought from the shop. I also used softer icing for the detail on the dress and used silver balls also bought at the cake shop. Nicole's comment: Tracy what a super cake and I love all the details. Well done!
