Ice Lollies Recipes

ice pops

These ice lollies recipes are perfect for a kids party. In fact they are perfect for any time that you or the kids fancy cooling down with something ice cold and delicious!

I think in the United States they are called ice pops or Popsicles but being British I tend to call them ice lollies. Either way, they taste the same - delicious!

Ice Lollies Preparation Time : 5 minutes

Freezing Time : 6 hours minimum

Equipment : Clean and empty fromage frais pots or other mould, lolly sticks

Ice Lollies Ingredients :

The great thing about these ice lollies recipes is that you can be creative as you like. You can either make them fruity or milky, colored or plain and you can even put small pieces of fruit inside. You could even be very creative and make a multi colored ice lolly

Possible Fillings:
  • Fruit Juice
  • Squash cordials such as Ribena
  • Fizzy drinks (flat is fine)
  • Powdered drink mix such as Kool Aid (mixed with water)
  • Juice from canned fruit
  • Chocolate or other flavored milk
  • Yoghurt drink

Making you Ice Lollies:

  1. Place the fromage frais pots in a small tray that will fit in your freezer.

  2. Fill each pot with your chosen liquid filling. Don't fill right to the top as the liquid will expand when it freezes. Leave a 3-5 mm gap.

  3. Place in the freezer for a few hours or until the mix has started to turn slushy.

  4. Remove from the freezer and place a lolly stick in the center of each pot. Return them to the freezer. If the stick falls over then remove it and allow the ice lolly to freeze a bit more.

  5. Allow the ice pops to fully freeze. This usually takes 6 hours or overnight.

  6. When you want to eat them, just take the ice lollies out the freezer, wait a minute or two and slide the ice lolly out of the pot

Multi-colored Ice Lolly

To make a multi-colored ice lolly, or Rainbow Lolly as we call them, when you fill the pot with your chosen filling, only half fill it. Pop it in the freezer to set for at least 3 hours. Then remove it and follow on as from step 2. above.
