How to make a Pull String Pinata
It is not hard to make a pull string pinata and it's a great kids craft idea.
With the more traditional pinata, the kids bash it with a stick until the pinata breaks and all the goodies inside come tumbling out.
With the pull string pinata, there are a selection of ribbons/strings hanging from the base of the pinata and the kids take it in turns to pull a ribbon. Only one ribbon opens the base of the pinata so that the goodies can come out.
The pull string pinata is a particularly good game idea for small kids birthday parties or indoor celebrations.
What's more is that it's a fun yet safe party game for the youngest kids who can get hurt trying to break open the more traditional pinata with a buster bat.
What You'll Need:
Ready made pinata (with a flat bottom)
Glue
Adhesive tape
Scissors
Lengths of ribbon
Tissue paper
Instructions on how to make a pull string pinata from a normal pinata :
- Cut a 3"x3"x3" flap on the bottom of pinata as close to center as possible. Perforate a small hole near the end of the flap where it opens.
- Pass a ribbon through the hole and tie a knot on the side that will remain inside the pinata. Make sure it is quite a large knot so that the ribbon is very secure.
- Close the flap. Do not secure flap with any tape or adhesive.
- Using scotch or masking tape attach ribbons around base of pinata. Make them all different lengths.
- Spread glue over the bottom of the pinata and apply the tissue paper making sure that the ends of the ribbons are completely covered. Let it dry, preferably for 24 hours. Your pull string pinata is ready!
