Recipe for slime
Need a recipe for slime? Well here are 2 which are easy and you can colour them to match the party decor.
Please note: Recipe #1 is not edible as Borax can be toxic if eaten in large quantities. It is therefore not recommended for children under the age of 3. If you want an
edible recipe, click here.
1/2 cup white glue
6 Tbsp. water
Food coloring
1-4 tsp. Borax - usually found in the laundry detergent section of your grocery store
1-4 Tbsp. water
Directions:
In a large bowl mix together the glue, 6 tablespoons of water and your chosen food
colouring until it is all dissolved.
In a smaller separate bowl, dissolve 1 teaspoon of the borax with 1 tablespoon of water.
Place the borax mixture into the bowl with the glue
mixture. Let it stand for 1 minute.
This should produce a nice blob of
slime!
Take the blob of slime out of the glue mixture and put aside in a separate bowl.
Now repeat the process by making another batch of the borax solution and again add this to your remaining glue mixture.
Repeat this process until all the glue mixture is used up (usually about 3-4 times).
With clean hands, knead the slime rather like kneading bread dough, for about 10 minutes. If the slime feels a bit thick, just knead in a few drops of water. The more water you add the slimier it gets.
Place in an airtight container. NOT for eating!
Advice:
This recipe for slime should not stick to furniture or clothing but if it does, wipe immediately with a damp cloth and some detergent. If it has already dried, cover the area with a cloth soaked in vinegar in order to de-gel it and then wash the area with a little water and detergent.
Do not throw the mixture down the sink but discard in your rubbish bin.
Variations:
Glow in the Dark Slime: Add several drops of glow-in-the-dark paint during the mixing in stage 1.
Easy Slime Recipe #2
Ingredients:
2 Cups Water
1/2 Cup Cornstarch
Food Coloring
Directions:
Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
Add cornstarch, then food coloring while stirring
constantly.
Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
This makes a messy slime that goes from liquid to solid,
and is great fun to play with.
