Well this page is my review of Site Build It (the company that I used to help me build this website.

And how it might help you earn some extra money.

I wrote this page in response to the many questions I receive about how I managed to build an Internet business and yet I am a simple stay at home mum with no web design or Internet experience.

#1. Can you explain simply how Site Build It works?

In a nutshell Site Build It (SBI) is a downloadable program that guides you step by step on how to turn a hobby, passion or interest into an online business by building a website.

You are not left to follow on your own but it is a program whereby you are supported all the time by real people either in the forum or in the SBI headquarters and plus you have the downloadable manuals and videos to guide you every step of the way.

YES anyone can use Site Build It no matter where you are in the world. You will need a computer and Internet connection though.

NO you don't need to know anything at all about building a website.

Site Build It have an incredibly simple block by block website building system. They also have stacks of templates which you can customize. If you want to make a more complicated website or use your own templates, they allow you to do that too.

This website was built using an SBI template that I adapted.

There are 2 main ways:

=> Firstly you might sell a product (or service) that you own or make e.g. homemade jewellery, eBooks, graphic design, language translation. You will sell these services/products through your website.

=> Secondly you might sell a product/service that you don't own - this is what I do.

In the last case, you join forces with a supplier (I joined forces with various party product suppliers) and then if you refer people to them who then go on to buy their products, you will get a percentage of the sale. This is known as "Affiliate Marketing".

Again Site Build It will show you exactly how to do this and how to pick the right suppliers.

"Affiliate Marketing" was a bit of a scary word to me at first. It's not really though and you don't need to be a marketing guru to understand it.

There are other ways to earn as well such as by putting Google ads (AdSense) on your web pages or writing articles for other sites, selling through eBay plus many more.

Site Build It has a very clever process which will walk you through how to choose a topic that is right for you and which will be profitable.

#5. How long did it take you to build your website?

I won't pretend that you can build it in a day or even a month. It takes time. People who wish to build a website within a month and expect it to generate thousands will be disappointed.

Site Build It have what they call a "10 day" course to enable you to get your website up and running. Although they use the word 'day', a day sometimes took me several days or a week. It all depends how much time you can devote to it.

I started kids-partycabin in early 2003 and it took me about one month to put my up my first few pages but another 6 months before I felt I had a decent looking website.

I started my second website learn-french-today in 2007 and it was so much quicker to get going as I already had the experience behind me.

I never stop building them though as there is always something new to write about. I'm always thinking up new kids party games and or plotting and planning new kids party themes.

#6. How much money do you earn a month?

The big question that everyone wants to know and quite rightly too! You want to know that your time and effort is paying off.

My first year on both my websites I earned nothing - a little disappointing but worth it in the end!

The first year you need to build the foundations of your business and this is hugely important. That is where a lot of people fail.

The second year I earned double of my Site Build It fee and each year after that my income has at least doubled and is still on the increase.

I now earn enough per month to allow me to work from home full time. My income pays for our food and holidays and provides those extra little luxuries that we didn't plan for. e.g. the ski trip that we are doing next month.

Some people earn much more than me but they probably put in more time and effort. You put in what suits you.

#7. How many hours do you work a day?

As I don't go out to work and my kids are no longer babies, I have more time than other work at home mums. However we are building a house so I am busy on that.

I probably spend about 4 hours a day at the computer but that does include time spent gleaning information and tips off the Site Build It forum.

Some days I don't work at all and other days I just answer emails. I think 2-3 hours a day is a good time allocation for me.

#8. How much does it cost?

It costs $299 USD per year. I've paid the same amount since I started in 2003 and that works out at just under $1 USD per day. There are no extras to pay and no hidden costs.

When I started 5 years ago, I relied on the Site Build support center - I had so many questions I wonder if they ever got fed up with me. They say not!

Now though there is a superb forum which positively buzzes with helpful people. There are beginners and experts alike all asking every manner of questions. It really is the best forum I have come across.
