Skewered Turkish Meatballs

Instead of the usual sausages on sticks, why not try these meatballs which are much easier to prepare than you think.

Skewered Turkish Meatballs (makes about 16-20 small)

• 1 small onion
• 1 clove garlic
• 450g minced lamb
• a few fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
• 1 teaspoon ground allspice
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• salt and pepper
• vegetable oil for grilling
• wooden skewers

1. Peel the onion and chop it finely - small kids often don't like big onion pieces.
2. Peel and crush the garlic and then place the onion, garlic and minced lamb in a large mixing bowl.
3. Sprinkle the chopped mint leaves, spices and seasonings over the lamb and mix in well.
4. Using your hands, divide the mixture into 16-20 equal portions and mould into sausage shapes around the skewers. (Note: To prevent the skewers from burning, soak them in water first for 30 minutes before putting them under the grill or BBQ).
5. Brush the meatballs with oil and place under the grill or BBQ for 8-10 minutes, turning them regularly until they are brown all over.
6. Serve as they are or with a dipping sauce.
