Kid's Party Food Ideas

It's always a bit stressful thinking up kid's party food ideas and what to serve but at the same time it is quite exciting and in fact with a little thought and planning it really is quite simple.

Kids are not nearly as discerning as adults and the main thing for them is that it looks exciting, it looks fun and that it tastes like a real treat.

I personally like preparing finger party foods as it is so much easier for the kids to eat and there is no worrying about knives and forks and the kids can come and go to eat as they wish.

Below are some of my favorite kid's party food ideas. I will be adding more over time so keep popping back to check. Many of my party food ideas can be prepared well in advance, popped in your fridge or freezer and then reheated or defrosted on the day.

Top tip.....If you make simple food look attractive using lots of color and shapes, you will find it all gets eaten. It's amazing how a simple sandwich can be cut into whatever shape you want or that a sausage on a stick can be turned into a boat with a mini cocktail flag!

Kid's Party Food Ideas

Most of the birthday party food ideas below can be made with ingredients that you probably already have at home or you can find easily in your local supermarket. I like to keep things simple!

  • Muffin Pizzas
  • Pita Pockets
  • Stuffed Cherry Tomato Bouncers
  • Mini cheese and olive scones
  • Skewered Meatballs (if you like spice)
  • Homemade Cheese straws
  • Raw Carrot/cucumber fingers with mayonnaise dip
  • Sandwiches (cut off crusts) cut into fingers or shaped with a cookie cutter. Fill with Peanut butter, marmite, savory spreads with no bits or lumps
  • French fries or fried potato wedges with little pots of tomato ketchup
  • Pizza slices or mini pizzas cut with a pastry round. Stick to plain tomato and cheese and use tomato paste (if homemade) rather than slices of tomato which invariably get pulled out by the kids. Same applies with too many sliced vegetables.
  • Mini chicken dippers. Small pieces of chicken breast fried in breadcrumbs and served with their favorite dipping sauces.
  • Sausages on sticks
  • Pitta bread fingers with dips
  • Mini cheese scones
  • Salty popcorn
  • Mini hot dogs or hamburgers. Younger kids generally prefer the soft rolls
  • Samosas
  • Green olives (no stones) - my kids just love these.
