Mac from the movie 'Cars'

The cake was for my son who was turning 5 and really into the movie 'Cars'. The main part of the cake was pretty simple to make- I just baked a few large square tins of chocolate cake. On the recommendation of a friend who makes lovely cakes- I used a cake mix for the cake and baked it the day before so that it was not so crumbly.(the cake mix has preservatives in it so the cake will be fresh for several days...not too sure how I feel about that)
Once the rectangles of cake were cut- I stuck the icing to the cake using strawberry jam. The whole process took ages...the icing tastes horrible to me but my son's face when he saw it was worth every minute I spent on it....this year he wants a space rocket - what have I let myself in for????

Lara I am impressed. It must have taken you ages to make this cake. I know what you mean about the icing - I find that fondant icing so sickly but the kids just love it.
