Fairy Party Invitations
Your fairy party invitations could go something like this:
In the land of the fairies on top of a hill (there are pixies there too), sits a little fairy friend who is waiting for you.
Her birthday is near and she wants you to say, that you will share the magic on her very special day.
Please put on your wings or dress your 'fairy' best and let the fairy godmother do the rest.
Make the invitation into a scroll and tie with colored ribbon. Sprinkle with glittery fairy dust.
Make little organza bags and place the invites inside. Tie with a silk ribbon and attach a small silk flower.
Make your own invites out of plain card and then go wild with the glitter and stick on jewels. Punch a hole in the side and thread some ribbon through.
How about these for some more fairy party invite ideas:
Ask the little girls to come in their "FAIRY BEST" and the little boys (if there are any) to come as Peter Pan or pixies and elves.
When they arrive have some magical fairy dust to sprinkle on them as they cross the threshold into fairyland. You could at this stage give the girls fairy crowns or flower head bands and the boys peter pan hats or green sparkle bow ties, or you could save that for the end of the fairy party.
Making a fairy party costume can be great fun but it can also be time consuming or difficult depending on your creative skills. Below are a few that might give you some ideas:
Alternatively you could make your own fairy party costume:
Twinkle, twinkle little star…..yes you need lots of sparkle and glitter to create just the right magical atmosphere.
Dedicate one room or area to be the fairy grotto and go wild with fairy lights, paper flowers, pretty butterflies and anything that adds a magical and mystical touch.
Erect a simple garden arch at the fairy party entrance. Cover it with fairy lights and paper flower garlands. Have the fairy godmother ("You"!) standing in front of it ready to sprinkle some magical dust onto the guests as they walk through the arch. This will transform them into fairies of course......
If using outside, pick a wooded area whereby you can make a secret garden. Set up a tea party area using tree trunks as stools and set up a miniature tea set. Sprinkle saw dust on the ground and mix in a little glitter – kids love this.
Decorate the trees with flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, fairies, and other woodland creatures in and around it.
Suspend a large colored mosquito net from the ceiling to give the room the effect of being a grotto. Attach colorful butterflies and paper flowers to it and also twinkling Christmas tree lights.
Decorate in colors such as pinks, purples and greens. Add lots of glitter and sparkle.
Fairy Party Food
Decorate the fairy party food table with streamers, flowers and glitter. Lay a length of white or pink tulle down the center of the table. Spray paint pieces of MDF in silver or metallic pink/purple and sprinkle with glitter and use as place mats, Have a tiara or crown on each chair with the child's name on it.
Alternatively have a fairy party picnic in a secret fairy garden that you have decorated with paper flowers, butterflies and twinkling fairy lights. Decorating the party table is relatively easy as there is plenty of inexpensive fairy party ware available.
Fairy Wands Long pretzel sticks dipped in melted chocolate and then covered in sprinkles.
Fairy Fizz Pink lemonade.
Fairy Nectar
Any colored punch poured into glasses and decorated with flower shaped ice cubes and fruit pieces.
Pixie Punch Make a green fruity punch with lime sherbet balls and ginger ale
Fairy cup cakes Buy or make plain cup cakes. Carefully slice off the tops horizontally. Cut the tops in half to form the fairy wings. Place a small blob of icing on top of the cakes and replace the wings setting them in an upright position. Sprinkle with icing sugar.
Teeny weenie sandwiches Cut off crusts and use tooth picks to eat them
Ballerina Tutus Pink meringues filled with pink cream and sprinkles
Fairy Bread Lightly butter white bread, spread with lots of sprinkles and cut into triangles.
Magical Toadstools Put strawberries on the end of small BBQ skewers and then stand upright on a large piece of florists foam.
Magic wands In advance make some star shapes out of very strong craft card which you have sprayed gold. Get the kids to decorate them with glitter and jewels. Then glue each star to a length of dowel. Let dry fully and then cast your fairy spell!
Fairy beautiful Have the "Fairy Godmother" paint the little fairies nails and put some washable glitter spray in their hair. Finish with a dab of blusher and some lip gloss.
Fairy cupcakes Make or buy some plain cup cakes. Provide loads of different colored sprinkles, silver balls and other cake toppings and get the kids decorating.
Jewelry boxes Ask your local shoes shop for any spare shoes boxes. Give one to each guest and let them decorate with glitter, colored feathers, stick on gems and marker pens. The kids can use the boxes to store their goodies and prizes from the party. Also consider these
Treasure Chest Craft Kits
Amazing amulet Cut a stack of circles out of strong white card. Punch a hole in the top and thread with gold darning thread. Give the kids fairy stickers and glitter and ask then to decorate them. The 'Fairy Godmother' can then place it round the child's neck and at the same time, she can grant a special fairy wish of protection.
Fairy Party Hide and Seek
Print off or photocopy some pictures of fairies. Stick them onto strong card, let dry and then cut out. Punch a hole in the top and thread with pink ribbon. Hide the fairies around the garden or house and see who can find the most fairies.
Musical Flowers
This is a version of musical chairs but instead of using chairs, use flowers which you have cut out from card and painted. Lay these on the floor and put the music on. Tell the fairies that if you play the musical loudly then they must rush around the room, but if the music is quiet then they must flutter gracefully about the room. When the music stops the last one to stand on a flower is out of the game but they do get to choose a small fairy gift. You could also use paper lily pads for this game instead of flowers.
Tooth toss
Collect a load of wine bottle corks and paint then white. Also prepare a couple of small baskets that you have decorated with flowers and hung from a tree. See who can then toss the most teeth into the baskets and for every tooth in the basket they get a chocolate golden coin.
The fairies missing wardrobe
In advance make or buy various items of fairy clothing such as a wand, pixie hat, crown, shoes, flower garland and so on. Have a set of items for each team of children. Hide them round the party area and then give the kids a list (pictures might be better) of items to find. The first one to finish gets to choose a fairy gift.
Fairy trail
This is best for outdoors. In advance prepare a magical trail which the kids need follow. Tell them that the fairies have been in your garden and you think that they have left a special gift for all the children but you are not sure where it is. Ask the kids to look for clues in the garden that might lead to the gift. For instance you could lay a path of glitter or glass pebbles; put small plastic insects on the trees; leave small paper foot prints on the ground or leave a trail of plastic flowers. When they get to the end of the trail have a magical chest set up and filled with goodies.
Piñata Having a piñata is always a great success at kids parties. Most of the party stores above stock pinatas.
Instead of paper or plastic fairy party bags try making your own out of silken material and ribbon like these
Pink Princess Bags
If you do use purchased bags, personalize them with glitter glue and streamers. Alternatively use small plastic flower pots that you have painted and decorated with glitter and stickers.
Bag of magic fairy dust (glitter)
Lip gloss and glittery nail polish
Anything flowery and pretty for their hair
Bow ties for the boys
Magic wands
Stickers and novelty rubbers
Anything that glows and sparkles
Torches to go on night time fairy hunts
Chocolate golden coins
Polished rocks and glass pebbles used for flower arranging
Did you know......Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, was one hundred years old in December 2004. The Peter Pan story was written by James M. Barrie who was born in Scotland in 1860. He told his first Peter Pan stories to the sons of on of his close friends Sylvia Llewellyn Davies. In 1904, Peter Pan first appeared on the stage and it was a huge success. James Barrie then decided to turn it into a novel "Peter Pan" (he originally titled it 'Peter and Wendy') in 1911. He died in 1937.
