Getting all the little kids to come dressed as bears might be difficult (not everyone has a bear costume!) so why not ask them to bring their favourite teddy bear to the party.
When the kids arrive you could give them headbands covered with brown fur and decorated with furry ears. Alternatively a cheaper thing to do is make little badges with bear stickers on and the child's name.

* Teddy Bear Party Decorations *
Think bears and more bears. Remember that this teddy bear party is for the younger kids so you don't need to go overboard spending you hard earned money on lots of fancy items which they may not even notice. Just clear out your cuddly toy cupboard, get down to your thrift store or get to a garage sale and get out those teddies.
Place the largest teddy that you can find at the entrance to your house or teddy bear party venue. Attach a helium filled balloon to his arm
Make large bear paw footprints form craft paper, leading from your gate and into the party area.
Make a mobile of buzzing paper bees hanging from the ceiling using clear fishing line. We all know that bears love honey!
If you are having a teddy bears picnic, set up a picnic area with small tables and chairs. Cover the tables with disposable bright checked tablecloths and place a small teddy on each chair.
Put up groups of bright balloons. A cluster of balloons always looks more impressive than individual ones.
Place teddies everywhere in the party room/area. Place the ones that you don't want played with out of reach of little hands.
Set up a teddy bear party cave in the corner of the party room using cardboard boxes or rolls of brown paper and fill with large cushions or bean bags. Place all sorts of toys in the cave and let the little ones explore and jump about.
Write the name of each child on a paper cup and plate and put name stickers on chairs. Attach a helium balloon to the back of each chair.

* Teddy Bear party food *
Little kids can be fussy eaters. They often like to eat on the move and so I would suggest finger foods and nibbles. Don't use plates unless you are sure the kids will sit at a table, instead use bowls or party food boxes which are ideal as they can carry them around.
Other alternatives could be small picnic baskets or the green containers strawberries are sold. Line them with a chequered red and white napkin to make them look more exciting. Label cups with the child's name on so they know which is theirs and avoid straws for the toddlers as they just get chewed.
Peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches cut out in the shape of a bear with a cookie cutter
Bearburgers Use a cookie cutter to cut the hamburger patties and make bear faces on them with olives, strips of carrot and cherry tomatoes.
Honey Bear Punch Mix together 2 quarts lemonade, 3 quarts unsweetened pineapple juice, and 2/3 cup honey.
Panda biscuits Make a cookie dough and make rounds. When cooked, decorate with black and whit icing to make a panda face.
Teddy Bear party cake Prepare a basic cake mix or use my all-in-one cake recipe. Make 2 round cakes for the body and head and then 4 cupcakes for the paws and 2 cupcakes for the ears. Cover with frosting and then add the final decorations such as shredded coconut or chocolates sprinkles for the fur, M&M's for eyes, black liquorice for the claws and dolly mixtures for the nose. Just use whatever you have in the house.

Make your own bears For older kids, buy some bear craft kits so they can then make their own bear or try these color me teddy bears on the right which are perfect for younger kids.
Bear birth certificates Give each child a small bear when they arrive and then get them to make a birth certificate which they can color in and take home. You could design your own birth certificate off any computer graphics software.
Colour the teddy bear Print pictures off the internet and give the kids marker pens and crayons to colour them in. This is a good activity whilst waiting for all he guests to arrive. Printable teddy bear coloring pictures
Honeycomb necklaces Get some string or wool and Honeycomb cereal and let the kids prepare their own edible necklaces.
Eat your own bear Bears love honey so make your own honey dough that kids can play with and eat! Give the kids rolling pins and cutters and them let them decorate with raisins, nuts, coconut, chocolate chips and sprinkles and then eat them all up!

* Teddy Bear Party Games *
Don't overdo the teddy bear party games but always have something ready and make sure that there is always some free play time. The younger kids might feel shy or anxious at participating so don't force them and always make sure that everyone wins something.
Toss the Bees into the Honey pots. Decorate some small flower pots or buckets to look like honey pots. Give the kids some small plastic bees or make your own out of yellow circles of cloth which you have tied up and stuffed with dried beans. See who can throw the most bees into the pots.
Pass the bear Rather like pass the parcel but instead the kids pass round a bear. Sit the kids in a circle, put on some music and when the music stops, the child left holding the bear is out but gets a small gift.
Musical Bears This is like musical the traditional musical chairs. Set out a number of chairs, one for each child minus one. Give each child a bear and get them to dance round to some music. When the music stops, they have to rush and put their bear on a chair. The bear that doesn't have a chair is out but they get to choose a small prize so they don't feel left out.
We're going on a bear hunt Make some large paw prints out of craft paper and put a number on each one. Place them around the garden or house and get the kids to follow the trail in numbered order. When they get to number 10 have a bear sitting there with a bowl of candy or cookies and each child gets to eat one.
Stick the Heart on the Teddy This is a variation of stick the tail on the donkey. Draw a bear on craft paper and give each child a paper heart with their name on it. Blindfold each child in turn, turn them around a couple of times and see if they can stick their heart on the bear’s chest.
Teddy Bear party Tails Sit the kids in a circle and give each one a tail made from brown felt which they can tuck into the back of their pants or shirts (might need to improvise for dresses!). Choose someone to be the teddy bear that is looking for his tail. Sit all the other kids in a circle and the teddy bear must get up and walk around them until suddenly he grabs one tail. He must then run around the outside of the circle and back to his place before the tailless person catches him.
Piñata Having a piñata is always a great success at kids parties. These are my favourites :

Did you know......? The teddy bear was invented by a German woman named Margarete Steiff (1847 - 1909). She developed polio as a little girl but that did not stop her using and developing her skills and passion for creativity. Whilst working as a seamstress sewing clothes, she started making pin cushions shaped like animals out of felt. This soon developed until one day she made a little bear out of mohair and thus the teddy bear was born.
