Let's get crafty with this crafty artists crafty party!
If you got some 'crafty kids' then a craft party theme could be a real winner.
In my experience a craft birthday party theme is more popular with the girls and it is easier for you if the kids are little older such as 8 years and upwards. However it is always popular and who knows you might have a future little Van Gogh amongst you!
I've got some great craft party theme ideas below, so read on...
Well I think that you are going to have to make your own craft party invitations!!. Get creative to give the kids an idea of the things that you might do at the party.
Ribbon cards
Make a card out of colored craft paper. Punch holes in it and then thread with ribbon either just around the edges or why not all over!
Colorful Rainbows
Make a card in the shape of the rainbow. Color and write your message on the reverse.
Artist easel
Make the invite in the shape of an artists easel and write the details on with paint and using a very thin paint brush.
Not crafty??
No problem. Just use card making software on your computer or use craft card decorated with stickers or stencils.
Craft Party Decorations
Depending on how many kids you have coming, set up various craft corners.
Tip: Make sure that you have an area for placing finished art work and do name each piece.
Hang up posters of famous artists and famous pieces of art.
Create craft stations and have a big easel or chalk board at each area saying what the activity is.
Create a big "Welcome to the Studio" sign to place over the entrance to the party
Birthday Mural - Place a large length of craft paper on a wall and get the kids to sign and draw a picture for the birthday child. This makes a great keepsake for later and can be put on his/her bedroom wall after the party.
Colored footprints - Make footprints out of colored craft paper and attach them to the path leading to the party or place them inside leading to the different party rooms. You could also make hand prints and place these on the doors that the kids are allowed to enter.
Get a large empty picture frame and place a chair behind it. Have the kids sit on the chair so they are centered in the frame and take their phot.

Use a plain white paper tablecloth on the craft party food table. Scatter around lots of crayons so the kids can draw on the tablecloth.
Choose bowls and utensils using the primary colors (red, yellow and blue). Make food name labels and give the food creative names such as:
Glitter Pompoms - Colored marshmallows, dipped in chocolate and then covered in edible fairy dust.
Rainbow Juice - Fruity cocktail decorated with cocktail umbrellas
Creative Cookies - Hand decorated biscuits
Palate-able Pizzas - Large round pizzas with their favorite toppings.
Dazzling Donuts - Donuts covered with icing and sprinkles
Artists palate cake - Prepare a basic round chocolate cake using a packet cake mix or my all-in-one cake recipe recipe. Using a cookie cutter, press out three holes where the fingers would be on a palate. Cover cake with white or brown frosting and then when dry add further splodges of colored icing to resemble a paint effect. Lay on a paint brush for effect and voila a simple and easy artists cake.
Cupcake Decorating - This is ALWAYS POPULAR. In advance make some cupcakes and then give the kids icing writing pens and small bowls of icing and sprinkles. Let them decorate and eat - yummy!.
Jewelry making - Younger kids will be happy with some string and colored beads or pasta shapes. Older kids might prefer something a bit more 'grownup' looking so you may need to get some special jewelry beads and chains or key rings to decorate.
T-shirt painting - This is not the cheapest activity but it is fun and they can be used as take home gifts. Learn how to create personalized t-shirts .
Potty potters - Give each child a ball of quick drying clay and get them creating pots, ornaments, fridge magnets or whatever they fancy.
Picture Perfect - Either buy some cheap picture/photo frames and give the kids lots of glue and glitter to decorate them with. Or if you are on a budget, make your own frames out of strong construction card or you can ask your local photo shop for some ready made cardboard photo frames.
Anklets - This is not expensive but does take a bit of time to make. My 13 year old daughter is always making theses for her friends at school. Even I wear one she made! How to make an anklet. Or how about making these easy friendship bracelets
You might well find that you don't need to play any craft party games as you will have so much else going on. But just in case you fancy a game or two, have a look below...
Pass the Portrait
Give each child a piece of paper and a pencil. Each child then draws a head and neck and then carefully folds the paper over twice so that just the base of the neck is showing. He then passes the paper to his left and then each child draws a body and arms and repeats the folding and passing. Then they each draw the legs and feet and pass the paper round one more time. They could also put a name at the bottom. Unfold the portraits to reveal the funny pictures and then hang them on the wall.
Picture pairs
This is better for older kids who might have studied artists and their works at school. Print of some famous paintings plus their artist. The kids have to work in teams and see who can pair up the correct painting with its creator.
Paintbrush Toss
Get some large paintbrushes and stick a small ball of modeling clay to the pointed end of the handle. Make a target in the shape of an easel and have some holes in it just like you would on an easel. The kids then stand a certain distance from the target and see if they can throw the paintbrushes through the holes, clay end first.
Squiggly Sketches
Give each child a piece of paper and get them to draw a quick and impromptu squiggle on it. They then pass the paper to another child who has 1 minute to turn the squiggle into a recognizable picture. It's harder than you think!
Piñata Having a piñata is always a great success at kids parties. Most of these party stores stock pinatas.
