We all appreciate a super dad or mum
But being a super hero is extra fun
An action packed super hero party will have them saving the world in no time. There are so many action heroes about from Batman, Spiderman, Superman, The Incredibles and more, that you won't have any difficulty persuading the kids to come dressed up for this party.
Cut out pages from super hero comics. Blank in the speech bubbles with Tipex and then make several copies with a printer. Write your own party message in the bubbles and send to your guests.
Buy a load of cheap super hero stickers to adorn plain white invitations. Use words such as:
Calling all super friends
You are requested on a Super Heroes mission
Your mission is to have a zapping time
Cut out a template of your child's favourite super hero. Stick a small photo of your child's head in place of the super hero's face. Make enough photocopies for the number of guests and write the party details on the reverse.
Make a template of a super hero cape. Make several copies on coloured card. In the centre of the cape draw the initial of the birthday child and colour or paint in. Write the party instructions on the reverse of the cape. Place in a large envelope with a black batman mask to get the kids in the mood.
Get the kids to come dressed as their favourite super hero. Have a few super hero cloaks ready for those kids who forget. These are easy to make from large squares of cheap cloth. Turn over a 2" seam on one edge. Sew and thread through some cord for the necktie. Alternatively have some plain black batman masks that the kids could decorate with stickers when they arrive. You can also buy
cheap plastic super hero bat capes (UK store)
Muscle burgers Burgers filled with 'huge' hamburgers and salad (if you think that they will eat it!).
Carrot sticks with power dip (always good for the eyesight!). Cut carrots into sticks and make your child’s favourite dip.
Spiderman cookies Make cookies using a spider shaped cookie cutter. Ice with sugar icing webs.
Popcorn bullet surprise Prepare individual cups of popcorn for each child and place a small action figure toy at the bottom of each cup before filling with popcorn. NB Warn the kids to eat carefully!
Power bars Home-made or bought flapjacks or oat bars with dried fruit
Super hero power juice Make ice cubes using different coloured fruit juices. Fill individual clear cups with lemonade and add a couple of coloured ice cubes. Or make a fruit cocktail using a blender/juicer.
Super shakes All super heroes need strong bones. Make different flavoured milks shakes topped with a scoop of ice cream.
Hunt the super heroes Cut out Super hero figures and villains in pairs. Give each child one hero and one villain and hide the rest around the house or garden. Each child has to find the matching hero and villain. First one to accomplish his mission is the winner.
Obstacle course Create a super heroes obstacle course around the garden. Split guests in to two teams and race to see which team wins the title of 'Super Fit'.
Piñata Having a piñata is always a great success at a kid party. Instead of using a plain stick to bash the piñata, colour it with red, black or blue paper and caller it a 'power baton'. Party Box (UK supplier) Pinatas (US supplier)
are good starting places.
Crazy string attack Divide the kids into heroes and villains and issue each child with a can of crazy coloured string. Let them run around (outside!) and see who can score the most hits on their enemies.
Avoid the Kryptonite Super heroes V's the villains . Divide into two teams of heroes and villains. Issue each team member with a softball. The aim of the game is to disable the other team by throwing the softball at them. If a ball touches a child he is then 'disabled' and has to stand still with his legs apart and can only be freed if another of his team members crawls through his legs. If he is disabled more than twice then he is considered defeated and must leave the game. First team to completely defeat the other team is the 'Super Force'.
Super hero anagrams Choose the name of a well known super hero such as 'Spider man' and get the kids to see who can make the most words out of the letters in his name.
Save the world Divide the kids in to two teams and issue each team with some orienteering instructions that you have prepared in advance. Prepare two different courses so that the kids aren't following each other around but each should end up at the same spot. At the final destination you could hide small plastic, globe key rings as prizes.
Create a super hero My kids love this game. Issue each child with a piece of A4 paper and pencil. Each child takes his paper and out of view of the others, draws the head and neck of an imaginary super hero. He then carefully folds the paper over twice, just so the head is hidden from view but let just the neck should be show. The papers are then passed round clockwise so each child now has a different paper. He then draws the body and arms and again folds the paper but just so the bottom of the body is showing. The papers are passed round again and the last person draws the legs and feet plus adds the name of one of the guests to the bottom of the picture. The papers are folded for the last time and passed around once more. The guests then take it in turns to open up their paper and to reveal who is the Super Hero and what he looks like. This always causes a lot of laughs and is a popular game so have lots of paper ready.
Super vision In advance take close up photos of everyday objects or enlarge the images on your computer. Have the kids guess what they are.
