Choose a Kids Party Theme

The place for kids party theme ideas.

"I love your site. You make the kids party
themes seem so easy"

Having a party theme makes the party planning so much easier.

For each of my children's party themes below I have made a party plan with ideas for invitations, costumes, decorations, food, party games and activities. The idea is to save you time and to make that party a blast. Have fun :)

  • ALL party themes

  • Party themes for the under 5's

  • Party themes for ages 5-12

  • Party themes for teenagers

  • Seasonal Party Themes

  • Types of party themes

  • Are you choosing the right party theme?

  • Other resources

  • What types of party themes are there?

Basically you have three main choices:

#1. Character Kids Party Theme :
These are usually related to films such as Harry Potter, Batman, I-Robot and so on. These themes go in and out of fashion.

    The latest HOT Themes!

    #2. Timeless Party Theme  :

These party themes are based around a specific idea such as pirates, sport, cooking, jungle or color and they never go out of fashion. These are my favorite as they are easy to plan and are very adaptable to your budget, space and imagination.

    Timeless Theme Ideas

#3. Occasion Kids Party Theme :
These are based around an occasion or age. e.g. Halloween or 1st birthday.

Which party theme should you choose?

Unless it's to be a surprise or the party lends itself to an obvious theme e.g. Halloween, then let your child help choose the party theme. Think of what they like doing, chracters they like, favorite activities.....

    *What are their favourite characters?

  • Do they like dressing up – is it fantasy or real life characters?
  • What are their favourite characters – imaginary, cartoon or real?
  • Do they like face painting or wearing masks?

  • *What are their favourite activities?
  • Do they enjoy getting messy with mud, water or paints?
  • Do they enjoy cooking and crafts and making things?
  • Do they have a hobby that could involve a group such as Lego building or collecting stickers?
  • Would they be happier inside or outdoors (I hope the sun shines where you are!)
    *What are their favourite games?
  • Do they like physical action or quiet games, sitting around in circle?
  • Do they like singing and dancing?
  • Do they like to make up their own rules and games?

Did you know:…… Pokemon was the favourite party theme in 2003 for the under 10 year olds. Pokemon originated in Japan in 1996 and was designed by Nintendo. The original term for Pokemon was "Poketto Monstaa", the Japanese term for Pocket Monster. The Japanese then shortened it to "Pokemon". A Japanese game designer named Satoshi Tajiri invented Pokemon based on childhood memories of collecting bugs in jars and wishing he could make them fight like the monsters in his favourite science fiction movies. The game was so intricate that it took Tajiri six years to develop the Pokemon game. Once released, the rest is history.
